Read More	Elizabeth Wernimont, daughter of Theodore Wernimont, and Catherine Reiter Wernimont, was born April 16, 1872, on a farm near Varna Marshall county, Ill. She died Saturday, July 13, 1957, at Geneva, Neb., aged 85 years, 2 months and 27 days. For eight years she lived with her parents on a farm near Varna, attending the country school. In February, 1881, she moved with her parents to a farm in Belle Prairie township, Fillmore county, Nebraska, where she continued to live until her marriage. March 25, 1902, she was united in marriage with William G. Gewacke. To this union were born two children, Clyde of Ohiowa and John of Geneva. At the time of her marriage she moved to a farm one mile from her former home. There she continued to live until she became ill, April 13, 1955. After that she lived with her sons until the last few months. When her condition became such that she required constant care, she was taken to Roselawn Home in Geneva. Beginning with her earliest recollection she was brought up in the church. Upon first coming to Nebraska, for several years she attended community services held in country school houses. When a church was established in Strang, she attended there. Later when a Methodist church was organized in Ohiowa, she became a member and remained an active member of that church until her death. She lived her Christian life conscientiously and spent much time in the service of the church. For many years she was a faithful Sunday school teacher. During the span of her years she saw much change. Having been born during the aftermath of the Civil War, she came west with the pioneers. When she first came to this county, it was an almost treeless prairie. She saw the building of the railroads and the breaking of the prairie to make farms. Remembering the beautiful trees of her girlhood home in Illinois, she was active in planting and encouraging others in planting trees. She loved the cooling shade of orchard and grove. She completed her education through the eighth grade in a country school situated upon the farm on which she lived the greater part of her life. Through all adversity she had an indomitable optimism, cheerfulness and courage. She lived a full and rewarding life. She was preceded in death by her husband who died June 30, 1942. She is survived by two sons, Clyde and John, Five granddaughters, Margaret and Mary of Ohiowa, Joan, Virginia and Marilyn of Geneva; two sisters-in-law, Mabel Wernimont of Geneva and Rose Wernimont of Rochester, N. Y., numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, July 15, at 2 p. m. at the Ohiowa Methodist Church. Dr. Alden B. Sears, pastor of the Geneva Methodist Church officiated. Mrs. Anita Schelbitzki and Mrs. Margaret Heston, with Mrs. Alice Luttich as accompanist, rendered the song service. They sang “Close to Thee,” “Above the Hills of Time” and “Abide With Me.” Pallbearers were Norman Wright, Halleck Demaree, John Matejka, Donald Luttich, B. N. Luttich and James Schelbitzki.
