Pierce - m. 12 Aug 1866 =============================================== The Newton Daily News, January 9, 1922 The death of Mrs. George Pierce occurred Saturday morning after a lingering illness. Elizabeth Harter was born on Feb. 28, 1850 to Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Harter at Madison, Wis. She was one of seven children all of whom have preceded her in death except one sister. She came to Iowa with her parents when a young girl and settled on a farm on Indian Creek. Here in this vicinity she has spent her very useful life. She was married on April 12, 1866 to George Pierce at Newton, Iowa. To this union were born nine children, Nora, Frank, George and Clifford, preceding the mother. Mrs. Amanda Wray of Indianola, William Pierce of Colfax, Charley Pierce near Goddard, Mrs. Bessie Zeck of Seattle, Washington and Audrey Hall at home, with her husband are left to mourn her departure. Mrs. Pierce was most favorably known and loved by her acquaintances. She was known for her kindness in sickness and death and was ever willing to give her service to any good cause. She was converted when a young woman and joined the Church of Christ at Colfax when Rev. King was the pastor. She was a charter member of the SunShine Club. Which she loved to attend and give her service and she will be most keenly missed in this circle as her death is their first in fifteen years. Her last time away from home was to help the club ladies sew at the Wm. Briles home. Memories of her life will be treasured not only by her loved ones, but by her many friends who have known her from their babyhood. Those from a distance to attend the funeral were her only sister, Mrs. Ellen Gearhart and son Charley of Harlan; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wray and son Wilbur and daughter Eulah of Indianola; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lennartz and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wray and Harry Cordray of Baxter; Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Hammerly and son Donald, Mr. and Mrs. John Teidji and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Watt and daughter of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. William Hall and daughter Mary, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hall of Bondurant, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Iseminger of Elkhart and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Baldwin of Mingo. The pallbearers were Wilbur and Floyd Wray grandsons, Charley and Arthur Watt nephews, and John Teidji and Nelson Hammerly nieces' husbands. Rev. Gains of Colfax gave a very nice sermon and Mrs. Gains and Mrs. Plummer with Mrs. Will Davis, sang two beautiful hymns. The many beautiful flowers sent by loved ones spoke highly of her esteem. The funeral services were conducted from the home at Goddard, Jan. 2, 1922 and the body was laid to rest in the McKeever Cemetery beside her loved ones gone before. ********************************************* Children: 1.
