Description	:	Ella Agnes "Nell" Molloy was born in Verona, Wisconsin on January 27, 1880, one of 10 children born to Peter Molloy and Bridget (Hurley) Molloy. Ella and her siblings attended the White School at rural Verona, then later moved with their parents to Britt, Iowa on August 4, 1898. Prior to moving to Iowa, Nell had made plans to marry a local young man, James Peter "Jim" McGowan, the second youngest of 13 children born to Irish immigrants Patrick McGowan and Catherine (Kivlin) McGowan. Nell and Jim were married on December 1, 1898 at Britt. Following their marriage, Jim and Nell farmed southwest of Oregon, Wisconsin on his mother's farm, until it was sold at auction on January 22, 1901. Jim's mother and sisters, Elizabeth and Agnes, were also living on the farm at the time. Jim and Nell then moved to Britt a few weeks later with their 1 1/2 year-old son, James Arthur "Art". Sons Claude and Francis "Jake" were born at Britt, before the family relocated to a farm two miles straight north of McCool Junction, Nebraska in 1906. The 80-acre farm occupied the west half of the southwest quarter of Section 6 in McFadden Township of York County (about 3.5 miles south of present day Interstate 80 on the east side of highway 81). Two daughters were born in Nebraska. Ethel Cecilia, who died shortly before her second birthday, was followed by Mary Cecilia "Sis". On July 27, 1927, Jim passed away on their son Jake's wedding day. After selling the farm, Nell moved to Washington, D.C. and lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Art and Zita McGowan, before moving back to Nebraska. Back in York, Nebraska, Nell lived alone in a small house on the west side of the main street (Lincoln Avenue). It was south of what used to be H. Ells gas station. Nell enjoyed baking wonderful bread and lemon dinner rolls. She was an avid reader and often had books with her to read. At some point, Nell went to California to live with Sis and Glenn Chambers (her daughter and son-in-law). They built a new home with an apartment built onto the garage. She had her own living quarters there. Nell later moved back to York and lived with her sister, Cecilia "Bird" Long, across from the city auditorium at 324 East 6th Street, where she died on March 4, 1953, after a year long battle with breast cancer. Jim and Nell are buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery east of York.
