Read More	Pub in the Ames Daily Tribune on Jul 12, 1930 Ella Doxey Boyd was born on July 15, 1848 on the White Cottage farm in New Garden Township, Wayne Co, IN, the home of her parents, Thomas Biscoe Doxey & Margaret Henry. Her father and the man who was to become her husband both fought in the Civil War and she has since been at great pains to compile for herself and her children complete copies of her fathers diary which he faithfully kept during that war and much of which was written while actually under fire. On Jan 4, 1870, she married William Orr Boyd, who was at that time, actively engaged in railroad construction work. As a result of his occupation, it became necessary for him to be absent from his young wife for a large part of the first 2yrs, during which time she lived with her grandmother at Waterloo, IA. It was, therefore, not until the spring of 1872 that the couple settled in their first real home, on the site of this present house in Ames, IA. At that time, needless to say, Ames was a small village; the Boyds were pioneer Americans. With them came two children, Emma Helen & Stuart Douglas, both of whom had been born at Waterloo. For 10yrs, the Boyd family remained in Ames, during which period more children, Edith May, Margaret Eliza & Alice Ellen, were born to them. From 1881 to 1901, they lived on a farm in OBrien County where their daughter, Margaret died, and where two daughters, Emma & Edith were married and left the family home. It was in 1901 that Ames welcomed the Boyds on their return to their original home. A new house (the present one) was built and the original one was moved to the north where it still stands. Their son, Stuart married & settled at Henry, SD and the remaining daughter, Alice, married in 1907. One of the happiest occasions that the Boyd family knew was that of their Golden Wedding, on Jan 4, 1920, so near the end of Mr. Boyds life. On that occasion, all the children were here, some bringing grandchildren; it was the first time for many years that the entire family had been together. Mrs. Boyd has been an amazingly active & mentally alert woman, even up to the day of her death. She was a constant reader, she was a Daughter of Veterans and a Daughter of American Revolution. She was a member of the Presbyterian church. Mr. & Mrs. Boyd spent many happy & active years together in Ames until his death on Aug 15, 1920. Since that time Mrs. Boyd has lived on, as she herself wrote, "at our old first home, Ames, IA". She is survived by her daughters, Emma B.Jones of Evanston, IL; Edith Lustfield of Chicago, IL and Alice Moore of Watertown, SD and her son, Stuart Boyd of Henry, SD.
