(sic)Boyd, pioneer hardward merchant in Ames & early builder, died Sun am at his home 121 E.Lincoln Way at age of 84yrs. Funeral services will be held at the home tommorrow afternoon at 2pm. During the whole of the period of the Civil war, Mr.Boyd served with a Minnesota regiment. In 1877, he came to Ames and, with his brother, now deceased, engaged in the hardware business. In the eighties, Mr.Boyd moved to O'Brien county where he owned a half section, which land he farmed for upwards of 20yrs. About 20yrs ago he moved back to Ames and built the business block at the NE corner of Main & Douglas for the Story County Bank and the post office. William O. Boyd was born Sep 18, 1836 in Ireland. His brother, Henry, with whom he was associated in the hardware business here 43yrs ago, died 7yrs ago. NOTE: William served for a year in the Civil War. He was the last of his siblings to die.
