Ella Knowles was born in Fremont township, Buchanan county, Iowa, May 10, 1864, and was therefore nearly 71 years of age. She grew to young womanhood on her father's farm and in 1884 was married to Howard Blanchard, member of a pioneer family of Coffin's Grove township, this county. When her husband's health began to fail they moved to Fort Collins, Colo., where he passed away about twenty-three years ago. A son, Dale, died at Fort Collins at the age of 21 years. Some time after the death of her husband Mrs. Blanchard was married to W.H. Roller, a contractor and builder of Fort Collins whose death occurred about five years after their union. After remaining in Colorado for a time Mrs. Roller returned to this county, and had since made her home among relatives here. She is survived by a brother, Dr. A.C. Roller (sic - Knowles) of Jesup, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. C.H. Blanchard of this city. She was a member of the Rebekah order. Mrs. Roller's long residence in this county had earned for her the warm friendship and high esteem of many who today mourn her death. She was a generous, conscientious, unselfish woman who met adversity and trial with fortitude and who goes to her rest after a long life of kindness and helpfulness. She will long be remembered by the friends of her more active years."
