Mrs. Blanchard was stricken suddenly and unexpectedly at her home, an 80-acre farm lying immediately northwest of Manchester, and was removed to the hospital where the highest medical skill proved of no avail. Services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Brown funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W.A. Frazier, pastor of the Community church, of which she was a member, and burial was made in Greenwood cemetery north of Masonville, that locality being the former home of the family. Catherine F. Knowles, daughter of the late Albert and Climena Knowles, was born on her father's farm in Fremont township, Buchanan county, Iowa just west of Masonville, Sept. 29, 1868, and was therefore 72 years of age. Her formative years were passed there, and on Sept. 17, 1888, she was united in marriage with Mr. Blanchard at her parents' home. The couple celebrated their golden wedding in 1938. For a number of years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard operated the old Blanchard farm near Masonville, and later bought and operated farms near by and in Coffin's Grove township, this county. For the past eleven years they had resided on the farm where Mrs. Blanchard was stricken. Surviving are the husband; one daughter, Ona, now Mrs. L. W. Roller; two granddaughters, Misses Leola and Jeanne Roller, all of this city; and one brother, Dr. A. C. Knowles, of Jesup, Ia. A sister, Mrs. L. E. Roller, died several years ago. Mrs. Blanchard was a woman highly though of by all who knew her. Her interests and affections were centered in her home and family, and to them her devotion was entire and unbroken. However severe she may have found the trials of life, she met them all with courage, constancy and the hopefulness of a brave spirit. Her memory will be cherished not only by those who loved her most, but by the friends of the long years past."
