Description	:	Ella Hitchcock Rindal, 91, of Roy, Montana, passed away in Helena on February 28, 2022, after saying goodbye to her family. Ella was born on December 11, 1930, to Lester Hitchcock and Anne Schultz Hitchcock in Lewistown, Montana. She spent her early years on her family's ranch in the small community of Hoosac near Denton, along with her six siblings who always called her Ella Lou (for Ella Lucille) which sounded more like Elloo. Ella was born on December 11, 1930, to Lester Hitchcock and Anne Schultz Hitchcock in Lewistown, Montana. She spent her early years on her family's ranch in the small community of Hoosac near Denton, along with her six siblings who always called her Ella Lou (for Ella Lucille) which sounded more like Elloo. She went to the Jones School and the Stone School which were one-room schoolhouses, until the 6th grade when she attended the Lincoln School. After that she attended the Lewistown Junior High and then graduated from the Fergus County High School in 1948. Ella had always been a tomboy and told us recently that her "Daddy" was her best friend. Some of her earliest memories were following Daddy and her older brother, Bob, around the ranch. Ella loved the ranch and often rode the train to Hoosac on weekends while she was attending school in Lewistown. Before graduating from high school, the furthest she had traveled was to Fairfield, Montana; approximately 140 miles away. After graduating she traveled for several months visiting Colorado and California, among other places. She went on to a year of college at Washington State in Pullman, Washington. One of her best friends was from Massachusetts. She invited Ella to live with her and her family and work at her family's boat and paint business as a secretary. Ella got in more traveling when they took boats into Canada. After all this travel she knew that Montana was the place for her and "the life she would love would be in Montana." She returned to Lewistown and went to work at the First National Bank. It was not long before she met the love of her life. In 1951, she met Melvin Rindal, who was handsome and had a cool convertible that impressed Ella. That same convertible was used to drive up and down Main Street in Lewistown with the top down in the rain after they wed in 1952. Soon after, they moved to the ranch outside of Roy where they welcomed three children, Linda, David, and Rodney. Ella loved the ranch and excelled at the work. She could outwork most men! Melvin and Ella took pride in their commercial cattle herd that they worked so hard to improve over their years together on the ranch. She could be seen in her 80s on her 4-wheeler helping Mark and Deanna Robbins get the cows in. Deanna says they were a great crew. Ella remained on the ranch after Melvin's death in 2002 and moved to Lewistown in 2019 and then Helena in 2021. Ella had many talents-she had some of the most beautiful vegetable and flower gardens around. She made terrific pies! She said that she liked two kinds of pies-hot and cold. Ella was an excellent athlete. She loved to play volleyball, basketball, baseball, bowl and play golf. She loved playing many kinds of cards and mind games. Her grandma taught her to play her favorite game, pinochle, when she was 12. She was a fierce competitor, and she passed that on, not only to her children, but to many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To say that she didn't like to lose was a bit of an understatement. Ella had a strong faith. She held Bible Studies at her home for many years and was a faithful servant in the Roy Church. She was anxious to move on to be with other loved ones and the Lord. Ella was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Melvin; sisters Dorothy Levens, Vivian Coleman and Carol Limpus; and brothers Robert Hitchcock and Richard Hitchcock. Ella is survived by her sister Barbara Martinson; children Linda Pfister (Rex) of Helena, MT, David Rindal (Cylinda) of Springtown, TX and Rod Rindal (Lesa) of Westminster, CO. Her grandchildren Mindy Cochran (Darin), Melissa Bowser (Eric), Lance Bowser (Natalia), Emily Rindal (Kevin), Evan Rindal (Shelby), Erik Rindal (Yana) and Kyle Rindal. Her great grandchildren are Jordan, Aurelia, Kienan, Brantley, Joshua and Kinsie. Ella also has many loving nieces and nephews from both the Hitchcock and Rindal families. Her brother and sister in-laws include Harold Levens, Glen and Dollie Rindal, Lucille Eckhardt and Gene; and Phyllis Logsdon. A celebration of life will be held March 12, 2022, at the Roy School at 1:00 PM and will be followed by laughter, tears, hugs and cookies. To honor Ella's love for flowers, we invite you to bring a bouquet or, in lieu of flowers, donate to the Roy Ambulance or Roy Church. Simple Cremation Montana has assisted the family.
