Ella Mae Hamby was born in Sheridan, Wyo, on Sept. 12, 1926, the fourth child of Robert and Lena Hamby. She was raised in Ismay and graduated there as valedictorian of her high school class. She moved to Billings and attended Billings Business College before meeting her husband, Bernard Obie. Ella Mae Hamby was born in Sheridan, Wyo, on Sept. 12, 1926, the fourth child of Robert and Lena Hamby. She was raised in Ismay and graduated there as valedictorian of her high school class. She moved to Billings and attended Billings Business College before meeting her husband, Bernard Obie. While she was raising her family, she began a second career in tax preparation which she did for many years. Ella Mae enjoyed traveling, fishing, square dancing, coffee with the girls on Tuesday morning, gardening, sewing and crafts. She was a faith-filled woman, a lifelong active member of the Catholic community, kind and thoughtful of all and devoted to her family. Ella Mae is survived by her husband of 53 years; her children, Larry (Cathy) and their children, Jeff and Nicole of Billings; Jim (Glenna) and their children, Chandra and Barry of Clancy; Bonnie (John) Siran and their children, Tyler and Kelsey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Gene (Anne) and their children, Devon and Elliott of Arlington, Wash.; Linda and grand-kitty, Mr. Sid, of Billings; her brothers Bill (Carole) Hamby of Spokane, John (Shirley) Hamby of Billings; sister Kate (Charles) Redman of Ismay; sister-in-law Thelma Hamby of Billings and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Melvin Hamby and Chuck Hamby. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 am at St Bernard's Catholic Church, 226 Wicks Lane. The family invites you to an informal gathering of family and friends in the church vestibule one half hour prior to the service. Rite of Committal will follow the Mass in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The casket will be closed at church. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, c/o PO Box 2025 MCS, Clancy, MT 59634 or to charity of one's choice.
