Read More	Coon Rapids Enterprise June 3, 1927 Mrs. Matthew Elliott died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. G. Crawford, Coon Rapids last Friday, May 27, 1927. She was the wife of Matthew Elliott, deceased, who preceded her several years ago. They came to Carroll County in the early eighties and here raised their family. They were pioneers of sturdy character and their influence in the community was of the best. They were devoted members of the Friends church and their lives comforted with the high ideals of their Christian faith. Mrs. Elliott died and her 92nd year. She had strong hold on life, being of a courageous spirit and refused to give up the battle of life until her waning vitality, sapped by insidious disease, overcame her strength. The funeral services were conducted from the M. E. Church Sunday afternoon, the sermon being preached by Rev. C. W. Thomas of the Friends church. Many relatives and friends were present. The following is a brief history of her life: Ellen Elizabeth Ennes, daughter of William and Margaret Ennes, was born in Schenectady, New York, August 14, 1834, and departed this life at the ripe old age of 92 years, nine months and 13 days. She, with her parents, removed to Ohio when but a small child, settling in Union County where she grew to young womanhood and was married to Matthew Elliott June 8, 1856, later moving to Logan County, Ohio, where they as young husband and wife, pioneered the elements and set up their new home. To this union were born six children, three daughters and three sons, five of whom are still living, the oldest, Olive, preceded her mother in death. After residence in Logan County, Mr. Elliott deemed it advisable to make another move, so in 1880 he and his wife together with her little family, again became pioneers in a new land, locating on a farm 5 miles north of Coon Rapids where she resided with her husband until his death in February 1901, she then making a home Coon Rapids where she lived until the last two years, making her home with her daughter, Mrs. L. G. Crawford. She leaves to mourn her passing, five children, two daughters, Mrs. Jennie Dixon of Ames and Mrs. Mary Crawford of Coon Rapids, and three sons Lincoln of Ogden Iowa; Ennes of Cambridge, Minnesota; and Thomas, Coon Rapids. She also leaves eight grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends. To know Grandma Elliott as she had become known to some of us, was to know a true Quaker saint. Of that quiet, reserved an unassuming type of Christian. She endeared herself to all those who knew her. In later years her memory had become somewhat impaired, although her mind had retained all its former activeness and brilliancy, but through it all she placed complete and implicit confidence in her Savior. The last hours of her earthly life seem to be spent in the ecstasy and joy of seeing him for whom her heart has been longing- Jesus, king of kings and lord of lords. Her mind seemed remarkably clear in the last hours of her earthly life. She always loved to read and was especially fond of poetry and sermons, having completed a book of the latter just a few days before death fastened its tenuous grip on her. She simply went to sleep in Jesus, leaving the trivial scenes of Earth to the tremendous realities of eternity. She will be missed by those who knew her best, but our loss is her gain. Before her marriage to Matthew Elliott she had been a Freewill Baptist, but upon her marriage to Mr. Elliott, she withdrew from this particular church and joined with him to which affiliation she was faithful until death, this action, making her a staunch member of the Society of Friends.
