MARTIN FUNERAL SATURDAY Ellen Colwell Martin, daughter of George Rupert and Hester Wilson Colwell, was born on her father's homestead four miles east of Glasco, Oct. 19, 1878, and departed this life Dec. 24, 1969, at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 5 days. Mrs. Martin was a life-long member of the Glasco community, attending Lyon Center elementary school, followed by two years at Concordia Business College. She was united in marriage to Cecil O. Martin at her family home February 28, 1900. To this union five sons, Sidney, Robert, Jesse, George and Roscoe were born. They raised their family in the Glasco community except for four years when the family resided near Bennington. She was a long-time member of the Glasco Christian Church, the Rebecca Lodge and the United Spanish War Veterans Auxiliary. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband Oct. 7, 1961 and by her mother, father, brother Frank and son Robert. She is survived by her sons, Sidney and his wife Melva; Jesse and his wife Nellie; George and his wife Irene; and Roscoe; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sister-in-law, Anna Colwell, and her niece and nephew. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in Glasco, Saturday, Dec. 27, 1969, at 10:30 a.m. with pastor Dean Donner officiating. Music by George Andrews and organist Marilyn Harwood. Pallbearers were James Beck, Ed Brown, Duane Wampler, John Miller, Paul Nelson and Elmer Beck. Flower ladies were Alice Jordan, Marie Riedmiller, and merle beaver. Interment was in Glasco Cemetery with Dean Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
