Frrom the Dawson County Herald, 6 January 1993, page 7, column 6 Obituaries Services Set For Ellen Stevenson Ellen M. Stevenson, 85, of Elwood, died 1 January 1993, at Lexington. Services were 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Elwood, with the Reverend John Hammons officiating. Burial was in the Elwood Cemetery. Berryman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She was born 26 September 1907 at Elwood, to Oliver and Clara Horn Stevenson. She grew up and spent her entire life in the Elwood area where she attended rural schools. The death of her mother left her, at age 13, to care for her father and four brothers. Miss Stevenson devoted her life in the service of others as a housekeeper, seamstress and caregiver to small children and the elderly in Elwood. She raised Gloria Lervig Schmeckle and Steve Lervig after their mother's death. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Elwood. Survivors include a brother, Willis, of Hershey, many nephews and nieces including Diane Seybold of Lexington. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Glen and LeRoy. A memorial has been established.
