Mr. Stevenson had been hopelessly ill for some time and recently was returned to the nursing home an Omaha hospital. Burial was in the Elwood cemetery beside his wife, the former Clara Horn, who died many years ago. Mr. Stevenson who would have been 88 years of age in August, was born in Illinois and at the age of 29 came to work on the Umberger Ranch, west of Elwood. He later farmed for many years in the neighborhood north of Gosper community and north of Holbrook, and was well-known over a wide area. He was the last of a large family of children, no sisters or brothers surviving him. His five children were present for funeral services: Ellen of Elwood; Leroy of Eustis; Harry of Bellflower, California; Glen of Gering and Willis of Hersey. From the Arapahoe Public Mirror, Thursday, 4 June 1959, page 3, column 3 Stevenson Rites Held At Elwood Funeral services for Oliver Stevenson were conducted from the Elwood Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, 24 May 1959, by the Reverend Russell Brown, assisted by Warren Anderson of Holdredge. Interment was in the Edwood cemetery. Obituary Oliver Stevenson was born in Peoria county, Illinois on 15 August 1871 to Cornelius and Trylla Stevenson. He passed away at Lexington, Nebraska on 21 May 1959, at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 6 days. At the age of 27 years, he came to Nebraska and worked for William Umberger, southwest of Elwood for two years. He married Clara Horn on 7 March 1901 and to this union were born six children. Oliver started to farm in Gosper county, where he resided for 17 years. In 1918 he moved to Frontier County and continued farming as long as his health permitted. The last three years he resided at the John Lervig home with his daughter, Ellen. His greatest enjoyment was working for his family and associating with his many friends. He was always willing to help in time of need. Mr. Stevenson united with the Methodist church at Gosper when a young man and retained membership there until three years ago, when he transferred to the Methodist church in Elwood. He was preceded in death by his wife, infant daughter, Maud, his parents, six brothers and six sisters. Surviving are his five children: Leroy of Cambridge; Harry of Bellflower, California; Glen of Gering; Ellen of Elwood and Willis of Hersey; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.
