Description	:	GAS CITY --Ellen Margaret Koontz, 84, 334 E. Main Street, died at 2:26 a.m. Saturday in Wesleyan Health Care Center, Marion. She was born in Madison County to late F. Ray Hull and Mary Lourany Thomas Hull. Ellen graduated from Tipton High School and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. She married Dr. William A. Koontz on Oct. 24, 1943, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Read More	GAS CITY --Ellen Margaret Koontz, 84, 334 E. Main Street, died at 2:26 a.m. Saturday in Wesleyan Health Care Center, Marion. She was born in Madison County to late F. Ray Hull and Mary Lourany Thomas Hull. Ellen graduated from Tipton High School and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. She married Dr. William A. Koontz on Oct. 24, 1943, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. The couple lived in Japan for a year, where Dr. Koontz was stationed with the Army after World War II, and returned to make their home in Gas City in 1948. Ellen assisted her husband, "Doc", in his family medical practice, serving as the bookkeeper. Ellen was active in the community and was an active member of Gas City First United Methodist Church, serving as a youth leader and church choir member. In addition, she was a member of the Grant County Medical Alliance, United Methodist Women, The Hostess House, Beta Latreian and the Gas City Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Cub Scout Den Mother and room mother for various school classes. Ellen, an avid reader and collector of antiques, also attended her flower and vegetable gardens and freely shared their bounty. Ellen is survived by her husband, Dr. William A. Koontz; her son, Stephen B. Koontz, Gas City; daughter, Carla Koontz (Dai Xiao), Jackson, Miss.; stepgranddaughter, Jennifer; sister and brother-in-law, Zola and Ward Riffe, Sun City Center, Fla.; friend, Karen Powers; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother and sister-in-law, Carleton and Maxine Hull. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church, 213 E.S. "A" St. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. The celebration of Ellen's life will be 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 213 E.S. "A" St. Gas City, Ind. 46933; or to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, 205 S. Washington St. Marion, Ind. 46952.
