Description	:	Ellen Marie West, 89, of Otis, died June 5, 2005, at the Yuma District Hospital. Funeral services are June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Otis, with Pastor Arne Bjelland officiating, assisted by Rev. Robert Miller. Burial will follow at Otis Cemetery. Mrs. West was born on April 25, 1916, at Bertrand, Neb., to Aaron and Beda (Ahlen) Strand. The family lived in Nebraska until March 1934 when they moved to Colorado. Mrs. West was born on April 25, 1916, at Bertrand, Neb., to Aaron and Beda (Ahlen) Strand. The family lived in Nebraska until March 1934 when they moved to Colorado. Mrs. West finished the eighth grade. She then helped on the family farm and was later employed by the R.B. Cooley family as their housekeeper and caretaker. She married Chester West on March 5, 1938, in Akron. They first lived in Anton, and then moved to Otis. They later moved to Morrowville, Kan., and returned to Otis to help Ellen's father on the family farm. She lived in Otis the rest of her life. She is survived by daughters Mary Lou Gorman, and Linda Gebauer; brothers Milford and Harold; sisters Ruth and Lenore; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Chet on Sept. 23, 1985; infant daughter Sharon Kay; brothers Art and Roy; and sisters Edythe and Florence.
