Griffin Dies Last Friday Leroy Township Pioneer is Called after a Long and Useful Life Mrs. P. C. Griffin passed away at her home in Leroy Township last Thursday. Funeral services were held Monday at the Pinhook church, Rev. Whalen officiating, and the immense crowd of friends who gathered to pay their last respects was solemn tribute to the esteem in which she was held. Ellen O'Day was born September 29, 1860, on the O'Day homestead, near Fredericksburg. On April 22, 1883, she was united in marriage to P.C. Griffin of Leroy Township, and they went to farming in the community. Two children were born to this couple, Alfred and Mrs. Clyde McConkey, both of whom survive her. She also leaves to mourn her passing her husband, two brothers, John O'Day, of New Hampton, and Will O'Day of Fredericksburg, two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Rourke, of New Hampton and Miss Catherine O'Day, of Beach, ND, besides numerous other relatives. Hers was a beautiful character. In her younger years she was ever ready to respond to a call for aid, and many there are who will always be grateful for her help in time of need. In later years, when affliction came to her, the patience and sweetness with which she bore it were wonderful to see. Her faith was like a golden cord running through her life. It gave her a kindness and forbearance and graciousness toward others with will ever be remembered by those who were privileged to know her and receive its benefits, and in her times of trial and illness, it strengthened and sustained her. She leaves to her loved ones a blessed heritage, a memory of example of one who was ever patient under affliction, cheerful through difficulties and faithful to her creed and its duties and commands. Tripoli Leader, 29 June 1927 Mrs. Ellen Griffin Dies Friday Mrs. Ellen Griffin, 65 years old, pioneer resident of Chickasaw and Bremer counties, died at her home in Leroy last Friday afternoon. Death followed months of poor health and a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Griffin was born in Chickasaw county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John O'Day. She received her education in the public schools and her entire lifetime was spent in Chickasaw and Bremer counties. She was married to Mr. P. C. Griffin and to this union two children were born, a son, A. M. Griffin, and a daughter, Mrs. Clyde McConkey. Besides her two children that are left to mourn her loss, are two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Rourke, Miss Kate O'Day; two brothers, Will and John O'Day, all of this vicinity, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Pinhook Catholic church in Leroy Township Monday, Rev. Father Whallen of Sumner officiating. Burial made in the Pinhook cemetery.
