Griffin, 88, known throughout Bremer County as Robert Griffin, died Thursday, July 13, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clyde McConkey in Leroy Township. Funeral services were held at St. Bridget's Catholic Church Saturday, July 15, with Rev. J. M. Fisher in charge. Interment was at Mount Olivet cemetery in Leroy Township. P. C. Griffin was born at St. Charles, IL, October 11, 1850, the son of Patrick and Honora Griffin. He came with his parents to Iowa at the age of three years. The family settled in Leroy Township where Robert Griffin grew to manhood and where he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen O'Day, April 22, 1883. Two children were born to this union, Alfred M. Griffin and Ada, now Mrs. Clyde McConkey, both of Leroy Township. Mr. Griffin for a time after his wife's death continued on the farm but for several years has made his home with his daughter. Mr. Griffin took an active interest in all public affairs and served in many positions of trust. Outstanding as a man of kindness and friendly feeling his acquaintance was large through Bremer County and many are the expressions of sorrow that he has not been able through failing death to mingle with his hosts of friends in recent years. He was a devout Catholic all his life. Tripoli Leader, July 19, 1939 Death Summons Patrick C. Griffin Died at the Home of His Daughter, in Leroy Township on Thursday Patric k C. Griffin, prominent pioneer citizen of Leroy Township, and well known to everyone as Robert, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clyde McConkey, Leroy Township, Thursday, July 13, 1939. Death came as a result of infirmities relative to old age. He had reached the advanced age of 88 years, 8 months and 2 days. The passing of Robert Griffin takes from this community one of the few remaining pioneer farmers. He was born at St. Charles, IL, October 11, 1850, and came with his parents to Iowa at the age of three years. The family settled in Leroy Township where Robert Griffin grew to manhood. On April 22, 1883, he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen O'Day. Two children were born to this union. Mr. Griffin followed the occupation of farming until his retirement about ten years ago. Mr. Griffin took an active interest in the civic and religious affairs of his community. He served as township trustee and school director in Leroy Township for a long period of years. He was a devout Roman Catholic. Since retiring from farming he made his home with his daughter a greater share of the time. Surviving are the son and daughter, Alfred M. Griffin and Ada (Mrs. Clyde McConkey), both of Leroy Township. Funeral services were held at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Leroy, Saturday, July 15, at 9:00 o'clock. Interment was made in Mount Olivet cemetery, the Rev. J. M. Fischer officiating.
