John, age 33, & Ellen S. Jones were living in Spray, NC when he registered for the WW Draft on September 12, 1918. He worked for Singer Sewing Machine Co as a Sewing Machine Agent. His birthday was shown as November 24, 1884. He was medium build & height having brown eyes & hair. His name was signed: John Percy Jones. On January 23, 1920, J. Percy (born in NC)& Ellen Jones (born in VA), ages 35 & 39, owned a home on Chalhaven Avenue in Leaksville, Rockingham Co, NC. John was a Sewing Machine Agent. Children living with them were: Self Jones 14 (son born in NC) Ethal (Ethel) Jones 4 (daughter born in NC) ----- On April 24, 1940, John P. & Ellen S. Jones, ages 56 & 64, lived in West Leaksville-Spray-North Spray, Rockingham Co, NC. John was a self-employed Machinist; Ellen was a Nursery Manager. They were living here in 1935. ----- They were living on Morgan Street in Spray when John was admitted to Leaksville Hospital where he died at 6 a.m. on December 29, 1953, from Cancer. He was 59 years old. Their son, Self P. Jones of Spray, was the informant on his death certificate. He was buried on December 30. Greensboro Daily News (NC) Wednesday, December 30, 1953 "JOHN PERCY JONES Spray, Dec. 29 - John Percy Jones, 69, of Spray, owner of the Jones Sewing Machine Co., died this morning at a Leaksville hospital following a short illness. The body will remain at Sugg Funeral Home in Leaksville where services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel by the Rev. G.N. Dunlin, pastor of Spray Methodist Church. Interment will be in Overlook Cemetery in Spray. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ellen Self Jones; one son, Self P. Jones of Spartanburg, S.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Rierson of Spray; and six grandchildren." ----- John & Ellen's son, Self P., died on December 16, 1955, in Spartanburg Co, SC. ----- Ellen had being coping with Chronic Myocarditis & Atherosclerotic Heart Disease the last four plus years of her life. She was living at their home located on 1101 Morgan St. in Spray when she contracted Influenza dying two days later at 2:30 p.m. on March 6, 1957. She was 83 years old. Her daughter, Mrs. Ethel Rierson of Spray, was the informant on her death certificate. She was buried on March 8.
