Description	:	Ellis “Jake” Jacobs, 92, passed away Jan. 17, 2016, less than four months after he lost Bunny, his wife of 71 years. Jake was born on Aug. 19, 1923, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Margaret (Flint) Jacobs and Lester Jacobs. Jake was a great writer and storyteller. Jake was born on Aug. 19, 1923, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Margaret (Flint) Jacobs and Lester Jacobs. Jake was a great writer and storyteller. He entertained his family and friends with tales of his childhood adventures growing up on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. When his father passed away, his mother moved the family back to her home in Maine. He attended Fryeburg Academy, where he had a shop teacher who taught him how to fix just about anything. Those lessons would serve him well throughout the rest of his life. When Pearl Harbor was bombed, Jake enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment until he was discharged due to an injury he received while training for the planned invasion on D-Day. He was stationed on the base in Alliance, and it was during that time he met Berneice E. “Bunny” Taylor, just before she was leaving for California to work in a defense plant. He took a train to California during his final days before shipping out so he could let her know he was serious about her. Jake and Bunny were married on Aug. 19, 1944, at the Methodist parsonage in Mullen. They raised their family on their ranch south of town. Jake went to work for Consolidated Telephone Company in 1962 and worked there until he retired in 1995. He enjoyed working with the latest technology the telecommunications industry had to offer, as well as delivering it to people in the Sandhills. Jake served on the school board and the library board in Mullen and was a member of the American Legion and United Methodist Church, where he served in many volunteer capacities over the years. Jake enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. Jake was preceded in death by his wife; brothers, Walter Jacobs and Dana Jacobs; and his sisters, Berneice “Bunny” Grimmer, Edith Sternberg and Eleanor “Tippy” Mitchell. He leaves his four children and their spouses, Jeff (Cleo) Jacobs, of Mullen, Philip (Elizabeth) Jacobs, of San Antonio, Texas, Kirk and Jodi Jacobs, of Mullen, and Tom and Heidi Piccini, of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Andy (Mindy) Wright, Kelly (Wade) Marsh, Joel (Megan) Jacobs, Jesse (Kady) Jacobs, Tara Piccini Manzello, Brian Piccini and Jake Piccini; 12 great-grandchildren, Ashton Wright, Ella Wright, Owen Wright, Hadley Marsh, Kyler Marsh, Emery Jacobs, Brooks Jacobs, Liam Jacobs, Brett Jacobs, Dominic Grove, Arianna Manzello and Matthew Manzello; and brother-in-law, Don Magnuson. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the United Methodist Church in Mullen, with lunch to follow. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. at the Whitman Cemetery. Mullen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
