Daughter of David Langdon Nine and Maud Luella Cooper OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, March 6, 2008 ELMA HOLLINGSHEAD Elma Hollingshead was born December 25, 1908, in rural Lucas County, Iowa to David and Martha Nine. As she lost her mother at an early age, she grew up helping her father with chores on the farm along with two brothers and one sister. Elma's second husband, Arthur Everett Hollingshead, brought her back to Chariton from Wisconsin where she had been for 20 years. She worked both at Gross-Galesburg and in the Chariton Courthouse under the WPA cleaning books. Elma loved many things in life, particularly gardening and flowers, as well as reading. She always had a special spot for animals as she had many pets (some unique) over the years and had a routine of feeding squirrels and chipmunks in the neighborhood. Elma also enjoyed church and her choice was Truth Assembly of God in Chariton. Elma passed from this life February 29, 2008 at the age of 99. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur Everett; both brothers and her sister. She is survived by her step-daughter, Leola Kelsey of Newton, nephew Duane, and niece Lavon, along with many friends and family that will miss her dearly. Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton with Pastor Don Hayes and Rev. Gene Kelsey officiating. Bearers were Paul Chilton, Marion Thomasson, Dave Amos, Mickey Etter, Isaac Hirschy and Terry Langford. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery.
