Description	:	Elmer B. Konken, 83 of Coleridge, Nebraska died on Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge. Funeral Services will be on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge with the Rev. Katherine Russell officiating. Burial will be at the Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Coleridge with military rites by the Hartington VFW Post #5283. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge. Visitation will continue on Friday at church one hour prior to services. Elmer Ben Konken was born on March 12, 1927 in Hartington, NE to John and Selma (Wittler) Konken. He attended Pleasant View District 44 country school. Elmer served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947. On February 11, 1951 he married Donna Jean Johnson at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge where he also was baptized and confirmed. Elmer and Jean farmed north of Coleridge and near Pleasant Valley before moving to their current farm south of Coleridge in 1956. Elmer was one of the first custom hay haulers in the country and also did custom corn shelling. His passion was attending farm auctions and buying antique farm tractors and older farm equipment. He would haul these items home with his pickup and homemade trailer. He repaired, repainted, and put them in the many sheds he had built. Elmer and Jean had three large antique tractor & farm equipment auctions on their farm. Elmer also had a Model A and Model T car that he loved to have his children & grandchildren drive him around the farm. As his health began to fail, he physically was unable to carry out his refurbishing and rebuilding talents, so instead proudly shared his farm stories, tractors and his adventures with his family, friends, doctors and nurses or anyone who shared and loved the farm life. Elmer is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean; a son Howard James and wife Linda Konken of Wellington, CO; two daughters Marva Lee Nass of Fort Collins, CO; Connie and husband Terry Keiss of Kearney, NE; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; three brothers Clarence Konken of Yankton, SD, Vernon Konken, Gerald and Delores Konken of Hartington, NE; sister Gladys and husband Marvin Pedersen of Hartington, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Marvin, Norman, Wendell and infant brother; sister Lorna Vedder.
