Description	:	Elmer Delano Hysell, age 82, passed away, surrounded by his family, on July 8, 2015 at Mitchellville Care Center. Elmer was born November 8, 1932, in Powersville Missouri, the son of the late Albert Jerry Hysell and Dora Lynn Canfield. In 1953, Elmer married Charlotte Lou Vanderlinden, and after living in several places the couple settled down in Colfax, Iowa where they raised their six children. Read More	Elmer Delano Hysell, age 82, passed away, surrounded by his family, on July 8, 2015 at Mitchellville Care Center. Elmer was born November 8, 1932, in Powersville Missouri, the son of the late Albert Jerry Hysell and Dora Lynn Canfield. In 1953, Elmer married Charlotte Lou Vanderlinden, and after living in several places the couple settled down in Colfax, Iowa where they raised their six children. In addition to raising his family Elmer worked for over 30 years at Firestone as a tire builder. Elmer was also an active member of the Hickman Church of Christ. Elmer enjoyed life and had many talents, but he was in particular known for his fondness for singing and listening to country music and for his woodworking skills. Most days he liked to eat the generous breakfast Charlotte use to prepare every morning, watch "Hee Haw" and other "vintage" shows, do a little woodworking in the shop (he had built himself), watch the news at 5pm sharp, take a nap, maybe practice the Dobro guitar, have Charlotte fry up some fish for supper, and then finally end the day by watching the "Late Show with David Letterman". He definitely liked his routines, but no matter what those routines were, he always made time for his family. Elmer loved his family and they loved him; and always will. Elmer is survived by his children, Terry (Monica) Hysell, Barb (Steve) South, (Gloria) Hysell, Gary (Kim) Hysell, Deb (Mark) McGee, and Brenda Hysell; grandchildren, Libby (Chris) Carlton, Samantha (Bill) Webb, Danelle (Aaron) Russ, Ashley (Jeff) Millet, Cassie Hysell, Heather (Blake) Dilks, Meredith South, Nick McGee, Matthew South, Andy McGee, Brittany Harmison, and Colton Harmison; 11 great grandchildren; his sister Dorothy Belt and brother Harold (Earnestine) Hysell, as well as a number of other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Dora, his wife Charlotte, his brothers Hillus Blaine and Bob Hysell, and his son Michael Hysell. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hickman Church of Christ in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 12, 2015, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Memorials may be directed to the church and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
