He had been bedfast for almost a year. He was born October 4, 1882 at Michigan City, Indiana, and at the age of four came to Nebraska with his folks. The Johnson family homesteaded north of Big Springs in what is now Garden County in 1886. He was one of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson. There were six boys and three girls but one brother, George, passed away in early childhood. In 1922 he was united in marriage, with Mrs. Mamie Morgan and she passed away in May of 1932. In 1935 he and Mrs. Delthi Rook were united in marriage and they made their home on the tableland south of Lewellen. [Editor: Elmer married Mrs. May Morgan, daughter of John and Ida (Cass) Odgen in Lewellen, Nebr. on 23 Nov 1922. He married Mrs. Delpha Blanche Rook, daughter of Francis Rudolph and Elizabeth Ernet (Hadlock) Reiter on 30 Mar 1935 in Oshkosh, Nebr.] They continued to reside there until May of last year when he was taken sick. They sold their farm and moved into Lewellen where they have continued to make their home. For six weeks Mr. Johnson was a patient in the Lewellen hospital but after that he was moved to his home where his wife took care of him. He was almost helpless but remained conscious to the end, asking to be turned over just a short time before he died. Further details concerning surviving members of his family were not learned. Plans for the final rites were not made known either as all of the family had not been contacted at the time this was written.
