Meyer who, having been in declining health and following a brief illness, died Thursday afternoon, Apr. 26, 2007 at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center. He attained the age of 88 years, three months and 28 days. Elmer J. Meyer was born at Willow Lake, SD on Dec. 28, 1918, the son of John E. and Jenny (Bruns) Meyer. He attended rural school and grew up in Willow Lake. On Feb. 18, 1941 he was united in marriage to Dena Oltmanns at her parental home outside of Lennox. The couple farmed and lived near Tea and then near Lennox until selling the farm in 1968. They then moved to Sioux Falls, Tea and presently lived in Lennox. While in Sioux Falls he was employed at Sunshine Food Market and then at Fiesta Foods in Lennox. His wife died just five days before Elmer, on April 21, 2007. They had been married over 66 years. Elmer was a member of LaValley Presbyterian Church and then Faith Presbyterian Church. Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his son, Verlyn, having died in the VietNam War in 1968. He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Graham Castle in 1992; five brothers: Ralph, John, Harm, George and Dan Meyer; four sisters: Rosie Harms, Theda Jongeling, Frances Osborn and Annie Smith. Grateful for having shared his life are one son, Delwin Meyer and his wife, Judi, of Gresham, OR; one daughter Marlene Castle and her husband, Cliff, of DeSoto, MO; five grandchildren: Pam (Rick) Allison, Manassas, VA, Cheryl (David) Walker, Springdale, AK, Michael Meyer, Helena, MT, Michelle Meyer, Gresham, OR and Sarah (John) Gross, St. Louis, MO; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; one sister, Hilcarrie (Kate) VanBuren of Lennox and other relatives and friends.
