She attained the age of 87 years, eight months and 21 days. Theda (Meyer) Jongeling was born on a farm near Willow Lake, SD on Sep. 10, 1913, the daughter of John E. and Jennie (Bruns) Meyer. She attended rural school there. She moved with her family to the Lennox area at 17 years of age. On Mar. 24, 1936 she was united in marriage to Theodore "Ted" Jongeling in Dell Rapids, SD. Following their marriage they farmed near Monroe and then south of Lennox for two years before moving to their farm near Tea. They farmed there until retiring in 1974 and then moved to Lennox in 1978 where they since lived. Her husband preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1984. She continued to live in Lennox, moving to the Walsen Apartments for five years and became a resident of the Lennox Good Samaritan Center in 1999. Besides her parents and husband, Ted, she was preceded in death by one sister: Rosie Harms and five brothers: Elso, as an infant, George, Harm, Ralph and John Meyer. Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters and their husbands, Mayona and Sidney Elcock of Hurley and Theola and Robert Viet of Monroe, SD; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives: Elmer and Dena Meyer and Daniel and Dorothy Meyer, all of Lennox; three sisters: Hilcarrie (Kate) VanBuren and Frances Osborn and her husband, Harold, all of Lennox, and Annie Smith and her husband, Donald, of Sioux Falls; a sister-in-law; Bertha Meyer of Bryant, SD.
