Description	:	Elmer was born to John Moden (1840-1895) and Carrie Stirts (Moden). He married Ida Philby in Centerville, Appanoose, Iowa 11 Sep 1909. Elmer and Ida lived in Iowa their entire married lives, Elmer all his life. They were the parents of 8 children: Edith Lavern (Wahl), Ruth Virginia (Hawk)(Elwood), James, Dorothy Mae (Vincent), Ernest Everett, Ava Louise (Sparks), Edna Leona (Weber) and Merle Lloyd. Elmer was reared at home and acquired his education in the district schools of Bellair township. He married Ida Philby in Centerville, Appanoose, Iowa 11 Sep 1909. Elmer and Ida lived in Iowa their entire married lives, Elmer all his life. They were the parents of 8 children: Edith Lavern (Wahl), Ruth Virginia (Hawk)(Elwood), James, Dorothy Mae (Vincent), Ernest Everett, Ava Louise (Sparks), Edna Leona (Weber) and Merle Lloyd. Elmer was reared at home and acquired his education in the district schools of Bellair township. After completing his studies he engaged in coal mining, as did his father, and continued for 13 years. At that point he went to Plano, Walnut Township, and established himself in the restaurant business, conducting a florishing business for a year, after which he sold out at a profit and moved to Numa. He opened a restaurant in Numa which became the only first class restaurant in the town. Also a fine musician, he played the clarinet. He organized and lead the community band at Numa.
