Description	:	Elmer Lee Stokes, 92, of Clinton, went to be with his Lord Sunday evening, Sept. 27, 2009. He was a member of Clinch River Baptist Church and active for several years on their disaster team. He was 32nd degree Mason at the LaFollette and Lake City lodges. He was also active in AARP. Elmer was a WWII Navy veteran of the USS Hornet. He worked at the ship yards in Baltimore, Md., returned to Tennessee and worked at K-25 until the '50s lay-off. He pursued his love of gardening and sharing the bounty with others. He also loved walking the farm and enjoying his love of nature and its beauty. He was born June 20, 1917, the oldest of nine children to Webster and Josie Stokes of LaFollette. He was preceded in death by wives, Nannie Stanford Stokes and Gertrude Hill Stokes; son, Charles; and great-grandson, Mark Stokes. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Janet (Stokes) and Gary Coleman; daughter-in-law, Naomi Stokes (Charles); four grandsons, Mark Childress, Trevor, Jason and Kelvin Stokes; granddaughter, Marsha Coleman; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Georgia Brown of LaFollette and Gracie Harber of Vicksburg, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Anna Clear and Geneva Stokes of LaFollette, Merldine Stokes of Kalamazoo, Mich., Theopal Stanford of Oklahoma, and Theresa Stanford of Wayne, Mich.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. with funeral services following in the chapel with the Rev. Tom Byrge and the Rev. Larry Webster officiating. Interment will be Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in LaFollette with full military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
