She was a member of Clinch River Baptist Church. Mrs. Stokes was a native of Loyston Community which was flooded by Norris Lake in 1934. She was one of the first Oak Ridge employees hired in 1943 to provide national security protection for our country. She was a member of Clinch River Baptist Church. Mrs. Stokes was a native of Loyston Community which was flooded by Norris Lake in 1934. She was one of the first Oak Ridge employees hired in 1943 to provide national security protection for our country. She worked as a machinist during World War II and retired as a Sr. Laboratory Technician in 1985. She was an active member of AARP and was on the Clinton Mayor's Committee representing the senior community. She is preceded in death by parents, LG "Gip" Hill and Bessie Stooksbury Hill brother, Vaughn Hill husband, Clarence Brummett. She leaves behind: her husband, Elmer Stokes son, Steven Brummett & wife Regina of Overland Park, KS daughter, Janet Wood & husband Darrell of Clinton grandchildren, Matthew & Sarah Brummett, Stephanie Green & Joseph, John Green & Beth great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Samantha, and Haleigh sisters, Retta Mae Hickson, Georgia Cox, Mary June Hillon, Lou Graham & husband Jack brothers, Carson Hill & wife Virginia, Jack Hill, Bill Hill & wife Emma all of Clinton step children, Janet Coleman and family, Charles Stokes and family sister-in-law, Virginia W. Hill of Oak Ridge several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews special friends, Angie Hobbs & Missy Cox. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM, Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Sunday at Clinch River Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Byrge officiating. The burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Garden. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.
