Dorie Hansen officiating, burial in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman. He was born on November 24, 1911 [NOTE: Gravestone shows 1910], in Marshall County, the son of Selmer and Jeanie Carroll Nelson. He received his education in the Gilman School District, in rural schools near his home, and at Chester Township High School. He then worked for area farmers. He married Evelyn McLennon Chvala on September 11, 1944, in Marshalltown. They farmed in Madison Township, and in 1949 purchased a farm in Sheridan Township. Mr. Nelson farmed until his retirement in the mid-1970's and continued to live on the farm until his health required nursing care. He was a resident of Friendship Manor since November, 1993. He was a member of Sheridan United Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons, Dale of Moorhead, Minnesota, Ronald of Sidney, Nebraska, and Kenneth of Malcom; two stepsons, Larry Chvala of Bena, Minnesota, and Richard Chvala of Moorhead; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Smith of Grinnell, Verna Dodge of Searsboro, and Helen Lippincott of Brooklyn; and one brother Carroll "Kelly" Nelson of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter Janet Kay; son Gaylon W.; and two brothers in infancy. Added 10 May 2019
