Read More	Elmer Robert Schultz, 80, longtime Mabton resident went to be in the arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Elmer was born on June 19, 1929 in Harrington, WA the son of Jake and Lucille (Bixel) Schultz. Elmer received his education in Mabton graduating with the class of 1948. Elmer was an All Star Athlete; the first basketball player in Mabton to score 1000 points and still holds the record for the longest field goal. He served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean Conflict. On September 12, 1953 he married Marvine Odle in Goldendale, WA. They together made their home in Glenwood where Elmer worked as a logger and farmed. In 1960 they moved to Mabton and farmed. Elmer was a member of the Mabton School Board and the Mabton Grace Brethren Church. He was also a lifetime member of the Sunnyside VFW. Elmer loved his community on a daily basis he could be seen opening the local café's (he had his own set of keys) where he made coffee and spent hours visiting with his friends. Elmer never called anyone by there given name had a special nickname for everyone. Watching his children and other young people in the community participate in sporting events was a highlight of Elmer's life, he was very passionate about Mabton High School Sports "A Life Long Viking". He is survived by his loving wife, Marvine Schultz of Sunnyside, WA, one son, Dean Schultz and wife, Marcy of Oreana, Idaho and one daughter, Daniece Roettger and husband, Bill of Mabton, WA and 4 grandchildren and three step grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Carrell of Prosser, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Dale Schultz and Darrin Schultz, daughter, Darlene Schultz, one brother Jack Schultz and one grandson, D.R. Schultz. Viewing and visitation will be held at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA and funeral services with Military Honors will be held at the Smith Funeral Home, with burial to follow at the East Prosser Cemetery, Prosser, WA.
