He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He had been a farmer and an auctioneer for the Foster Kretz Auctioneer Co. He was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Clay Center. Survivors include his wife, Edmere of the home; a son, Kenneth of Clay Center; three daughters, Marie Colvin of Houston, Juel Steffen of Santa Fe, N.M. and Rita Steffen of Ponca City, Okla; and a brother, Giles of Redondo Beach, Calif. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Clay Center. Monsignor John George Weber officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery Clay Center. A rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Monday at the Neill-Schwensen Funeral Home, Clay Center. Memorials may be made to the Clay County Hospice or the church. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
