Description	:	Elmo Holsten, 95, died peacefully on Sept. 18, in Vallejo, surrounded by his loving family. Elmo was born in McClelland, Arkansas on June 18, 1917 to his parents, Bert Holsten and Mattie Allen. He resided for a short time in San Pedro, CA. He moved to his permanent residence, Vallejo in 1928. Elmo attended Lincoln Grammar School, and graduated from Vallejo High School in 1935. In high school he excelled at football and basketball. Read More	Elmo Holsten, 95, died peacefully on Sept. 18, in Vallejo, surrounded by his loving family. Elmo was born in McClelland, Arkansas on June 18, 1917 to his parents, Bert Holsten and Mattie Allen. He resided for a short time in San Pedro, CA. He moved to his permanent residence, Vallejo in 1928. Elmo attended Lincoln Grammar School, and graduated from Vallejo High School in 1935. In high school he excelled at football and basketball. He served in WWII in the United States Navy, as a First Class Pharmacist Mate attached to the 2nd Marine Division. In the South Pacific, he participated in landings on the islands of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, and Saipan. He returned to Vallejo in 1944 and married his dear sweetheart, Evelyn. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier and Civil Service Examiner for over 36 years. He also worked for Rexall Pharmacy and Pete's Delicatessen, to further support his family. Elmo was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Church, The Holy Name Society, The National Association of Letter Carriers, and The Veterans of Foreign Wars. Elmo had a great sense of humor, and limitless wit, that he exhibited in letters and poems sent to his family, friends and the Times-Herald. He was an avid golfer. He scored two, hole-in-one, and was known for his smooth swing and deft putting touch. He was a voracious reader, and a great fan of sports: golf, baseball and football, especially his beloved 49ers. Elmo is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Evelyn; four children, Martin Holsten (Angelina), Matthew Holsten (Kimberly), Susan Branch and Angela Madison (Wayne); six grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
