When an infant she came to Hamilton county, Iowa, with her parents, Levi and Achsah Cottington where she grew to womanhood. She attended the country school, and was an apt and conscientous student always being at the head of her class, and afterwards she taught several years in the school of the county, at which she was very successful. Read More	In Memory of Mrs. Hill Elnor Cottington was born January 9th, 1868 at Reedsburg, Sauk county, Wisconsin and died at her home near Stanhope, Iowa, September 9, 1924, aged 58 years and 8 months. When an infant she came to Hamilton county, Iowa, with her parents, Levi and Achsah Cottington where she grew to womanhood. She attended the country school, and was an apt and conscientous student always being at the head of her class, and afterwards she taught several years in the school of the county, at which she was very successful. On September 24, 1891 she was united in marriage to Leonard Hill of Stanhope, Iowa, moving at once to their farm three miles west of there, where they have since made their home. Unto this union six children were born, four of whom passed on before their mother. Nrs. Hill leaves to mourn her demise, a loving husband; two boys, Leonard Jr.; aged 16; Ray aged 13, her aged father, Levi Cottington, one sister, Mrs. Robert Downs of Webster City, Iowa, four brothers, s. J. Cottington of Stanhope, J. R. Cottington and Omro Cottington of Ayrshire, Iowa, and L. B. Cottington of Forest City, Iowa, besides other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral was held Thursday, September 11, from the Christian Church at Stanhope conducted by the Reverend Williams of Belle Plains of the Church of God, of which she was a faithful and active member. Although the clouds were lowering, a very large number of friends and neighbors came to the last sad rites to show their love and esteem. she was laid to rest in Graceland cemetery at Webster City. On July 10th she underwent an operation for gall stones from which she never recovered; complications set in, which was the immediate cause of death. Although a great sufferer, she was never heard to complain and was ever considerate for her family and for those who cared for her during her illness. She will be sorely missed by her husband, who found her a true and faithful companion, ready and willing to carry her full share of the burdens of life. as a mother she was loving and kind, ever trying with her soothing voice and gentle hands to direct her children in the right paths, and set examples which they will well remember. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances, and she will be remembered by her neighbors as always ready with a helping hand in times of trouble, and with her cheerful words and smile took her full part in the social affairs of home and church, will she will be greatly missed.
