She was born at the family home on Sept. 6, 1919, in Rosebud. She was the only daughter of the late Ella and Fred Bills and had two brothers, Maynard Bills and John Bills Amsberry. Mrs. Wagner showed an appreciation and remarkable talent for music even during her early years. She and her older brother, Maynard, both were gifted as they taught themselves to play on their Grandmother Lazenby's piano in their parlor. Her father, Fred, would play drums and mother, Ella, sang while Maynard and Eloise took turns playing the piano. Mrs. Wagner would help the organist by pumping the pedals for her in the little Episcopal Church in Rosebud. Soon, she was able to play by herself at the age of 12 years. She was raised in Rosebud and attended school there through the eighth grade. The important family decision was made for her to travel home to California with her Aunt Rosa and Uncle George Williams to live in Claremont, Calif., and attend high school there. She was able to attend a larger school there and to continue her musical talent as part of the school's orchestra classes. She became a member of the Claremont High School Orchestra for four years and graduated from Claremont High School in 1937. During World War II, she married and had a daughter, Joan, born in the family home in Ontario, Calif. The family lived for four years in Balboa and Newport Beach, Calif. Mrs. Wagner worked by playing the piano in many hotel dining rooms and vacation lodges in the mountains nearby. She also played background music on many radio programs. She and her daughter moved to Montana to stay with her parents in the Bills' household in 1947, following her divorce, and she commuted for two years to Forsyth to work in the Ben Franklin Store for Dick Wagner. On Jan. 7, 1950, she and Mr. Wagner were married and became life partners for 45 years as well as business partners for 30 years. The Wagners' daughter, Joan and new baby, Lou and Dick's daughter, Nonie and son, Randy Wagner completed their family. Mrs. Wagner's famous sewing and knitting talents were a big hit with the customers in the store and she enjoyed helping them with their handcrafted projects. The sounds of music continued to flow through Mrs. Wagner's life as her talents were recognized and she played for many weddings, funerals and community events. She was an organist for the Concordia Lutheran Church in Forsyth for more than 25 years. A grand piano and concert-size Hammond organ replaced the formal dining room in their home. Mr. and Mrs. Wagner retired and sold their V Store Trading Post store in 1976. The love of travel continued to beckon to them as they journeyed through many states, visiting family and friends, and traveling through areas of Canada, Mexico and Central America. They loved the high desert country south of Tucson, Ariz., and chose a small home site Dragoon, Ariz., as their winter home from November to May. They traveled back to Montana every May to October to live in their trailers in a special hillside site on the DeCock ranch with Joan and Dick and family. Mr. and Mrs. Wagner had "green thumbs" and, along with the DeCocks, raised tons of produce to can and share with family and friends. There was a special sense of pride to enjoy the fruits of their labors in the shiny jars of food lining their shelves during the winter months in Arizona. The couple's family brought them great joy and they dearly loved their expanded family of 10 grandchildren and 16 great-children. Mrs. Wagner made her home in Forsyth after losing her partner, Mr. Wagner, in October 1995. The strains of music from the talented Bills family continued through the years as Eloise, an 85 year-old resident at the Rosebud Nursing Home in Forsyth, continued playing the piano before dinner for many of her friends. She is survived by her daughter, Joan, her husband, Dick DeCock of Forsyth and their children, Mark and Kathy DeCock, and great-grandchildren, Kaybree and Jordan of Forsyth; her grandson, Dennis, his wife, Darlene DeCock, and great-grandchildren, Brendon, Brady and Briana of Huntley Project; her granddaughter, Michele, her husband Duane Ayers, and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler and Courtney Ayers of Medina, Ohio; her son, Lou Wagner of Bellingham, Wash.; her step-daughter, Nonie, her husband, Jim Nirider, and children of Lander, Wyo., grandson, Tom, and his wife, Janie Nirider, and great-grandsons, Andrew and Aaron of Riverton, Wyo., grandson, Joel and his wife, Teresa Nirider, and Nick, and step-children, Andrea, Ian and Kaitlyn; granddaughter, Martha, her husband, Bryk Cook, all of Lander, Wyo.; and granddaughter, Kristi Sumpter, her husband, Mick of Kearny, Neb., and great-grandchildren, Samantha and Bobbie Jean of Kearney; granddaughter, Kelly Jo, her husband, Kevin Jones, of Chadron, Neb., and great-grandchildren, Willy, Bob, and Maggie Mae; Kary Wagner and her husband, George Foutz of Hauser, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews. Eloise was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ella and Fred Bills; her husband, Dick; her brothers, Maynard Bills and John Bills Amsberry; and her great-grandson, Kraig Wagner of Cheyenne, Wyo. A prayer service was held Friday, July 15, 2005, at 7 p.m. in Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. The funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005, at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Forsyth.
