Description	:	Elroy was born on July 11, 1923 in Orchard, Nebraska to Christian Arthur Lieb and Dorothy Opal McCoun. When he was 7 years old, Elroy's father passed away. Elroy attended elementary school and graduated from high school in Orchard. Following graduation, Elroy moved with his family to O'Neill. In 1943, Elroy was drafted into the United States Army, and following 9 weeks basic training, he was sent to the Philippine Islands to fight in World War II. Read More	Elroy was born on July 11, 1923 in Orchard, Nebraska to Christian Arthur Lieb and Dorothy Opal McCoun. When he was 7 years old, Elroy's father passed away. Elroy attended elementary school and graduated from high school in Orchard. Following graduation, Elroy moved with his family to O'Neill. In 1943, Elroy was drafted into the United States Army, and following 9 weeks basic training, he was sent to the Philippine Islands to fight in World War II. Elroy was wounded three times, receiving three Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. After the third wound, Elroy was sent to the Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado to recover. Elroy Lieb and his lifelong sweetheart, Norma Jean Derickson married on July 29, 1945 at the Dorsey Presbyterian Church, located in Northeast Holt County. To this union, 5 children were born: Larry, Kenny, Dick, Kathy, and Lee. Elroy was a kind and loving husband and father. In 1946, Elroy and Norma Jean moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he attended Lincoln School of Commerce. Elroy started his 41 year career as Parts Manager for General Motors Chevrolet dealerships, the first being Grant Motor of York, Nebraska, and followed by Midwest Motor of O'Neill, Lew White Motor of O'Neill, Alva Marcellus and Alan Van Vleck Chevrolet of O'Neill, Spitzenberger Chevy & Olds of O'Neill, Rediger Chevrolet in Milford, Nebraska, and Eby's Inc. of O'Neill. Elroy and his wife, Norma Jean retired from Eby's Inc. in 1988. For over 60 years, Elroy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as Trustee, Deacon, and Elder. A lifetime member of American Legion Post 93, of O'Neill, Elroy served as Commander, Adjutant, Honor Guard, and Color Guard. The Legion was a very important part of Elroy's life. For many years, at Memorial Day - Elroy and his wife, Norma Jean placed a small American flag on every veteran's grave in the Cemetery in O'Neill. Elroy was granted permission to have the American flag posted at the Great Western Bank in O'Neill. Elroy coached Little League Baseball and supported the junior and senior leagues. Elroy was preceded in death by his Mother, Dorothy; his Father, Chris; two Step-Fathers, Bill Patterson and Bernard Pond, Brother, Lyle; Sister, Maxine Parks; and Half-Sister, Darlene Karr. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
