She spent her early years here, growing to womanhood in this same Iowa county area. Elsie attended rural school, graduating from Victor high school in 1933. On Nov. 19, 1935 Elsie was united in marriage to William Shepherd at Victor. To this union were born five children. She spent her early years here, growing to womanhood in this same Iowa county area. Elsie attended rural school, graduating from Victor high school in 1933. On Nov. 19, 1935 Elsie was united in marriage to William Shepherd at Victor. To this union were born five children. Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd were privileged to have observed over 40 years of marriage. Following their marriage they farmed until 1960 when they moved to Cedar Rapids. In 1973 they returned to Victor and this was her home at the time of her death. Mrs. Shepherd entered into rest on Friday, June 18, at Mercy hospital in Iowa City. She had attained the age of 61 years, 4 months and 28 days. Mrs. Shepherd was a member of the Victor United Methodist church. Elsie is survived by her husband, Bill; her five children, Tom of Dunkerton, Fred of Helena, Mont., Judy, Mrs. Steve Schoenherr of Traverse City, Mich., Jan, Mrs. Byron Coghlan of Victor and Richard of New Brunswick, Maine. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Rudy Meyer and George Meyer of Victor, two sisters, Emma, Mrs. Alva Neitzel of Victor and Adella, Mrs. John Heins of Belle Plaine; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the McAninch chapel in Victor with the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer officiating. Two organ solos, "For All the Saints" and "Abide With Me" were played by Mrs. Milton Maack. In care of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Neff Ritchie. Burial was in Victor with Charles Pirkl, Kenneth Schultz, Robert Hampton, Howard Fairchild, Harold Schmidt and Richard Slaymaker serving as casket bearers.
