The body was cremated and burial was in the Victor Memorial Cemetery. William S. Shepherd was born Sept. 10, 1908 at Fort Scott, Kans., the son of Thomas and Lucinda Pickering Shepherd. He attended the Fort Scott schools. On Nov. 19, 1935 he married Elsie Meyer in Victor. The family farmed in the Victor area from 1935 until his retirement in 1960. She died in 1976. Shepherd was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during peacetime. He is survived by three sons, Thomas, Dunkerton; Fred, Helena, Mont.; and Richard, San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Judy, (Mrs. Steve) Schoenherr, Rochester, Mich., and Jan (Mrs. Byron) Coghlan, Abingdon, Md.; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers Charlie Shepherd, Needles, Calif., and John Shepherd, Oakland, Calif.; two sisters Joan Purcell, Oakland, Calif., and Mary Pratt, Hemet, Calif. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Inex Borgfeld and Laura Grahm, and two brothers James and Orbin Shepherd.
