Carroll, 90, passed away Monday, April 29, at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson. She was a former teacher at Nelson High School. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 2, at 2 p.m. at Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson with Pastor Michael Osberg officiating. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery. Survivors include three daughters, Patty King of Hebron, Nebraska, Kay Zook of Englewood, Colorado, and Connie Bittner of Southwest Natchez Lualatin, Oregon. Her husband, Roy W., preceded her in death. =============================== The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, May 9, 1996; pg. 6 Elsie Blanche Carroll, daughter of Thomas and Kristina (Dostal) Pucelik, was born on a farm near Spencer, Nebraska, April 7, 1906, and passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Nebraska, Monday, April 29, 1996, at the age of 90 years and 22 days. She attended rural elementary school and graduated from Spencer High School. Elsie received her B.S. from the University of Nebraska. June 12, 1932 (sic), in O'Neill, Nebraska, she was united in marriage to Roy William Carroll. This union was blessed with three daughters, Kay, Patty and Connie. She had lived in Spencer, O'Neill, Bassett and Nelson, Nebraska, communities. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Retired Teachers and various organizations connected with school while teaching. She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church. Elsie raised her three daughters alone after her husband's death in 1947. She was always interested in their welfare doing all she could to better prepare them for the future. This included the accomplishment of providing a nursing and college degree for all three daughters. She loved to sew for herself and her daughters. She lovingly made the girls dresses when they were growing up. Cooking was also something she enjoyed, especially some of her favorite Bohemian recipes. From 1947 until her retirement, Elsie was a Home Economics and English teacher at Nelson High School. She enjoyed teaching and working with young people. For many years she was sponsor of the high school Pep Club and assisted with the annual Sweetheart Party. Many of her students still remember and have thanked her for teaching them to sew. She especially enjoyed teaching a class of boys one year in Home Economics. Elsie was always interested in the community and schools. After retirement from teaching, Elsie cooked at Nelson Good Samaritan Center for several years. She was also an enthusiastic crossword puzzle worker in her later years. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Roy on April 19, 1947; three brothers, Dr. J.M. Pucelik, Dr. J.L. Pucelik and Dr. L.S. Pucelik; three sisters, Mrs. Ola Nielsen, Mrs. Vlasta Fiala and Ms. Emma Pucelik. Survivors include three daughters, Kay Zook and her husband Larry of Englewood, Colorado, Patty King and her husband Jack of Hebron, Nebraska, and Connie Bittner and her husband Richard of Tualatin, Oregon; seven grandchildren, David Zook, Debra Wickizer, Steven and Scott King, Sharon Savage and Robert and Jennifer Bittner; two great grandchildren, Jennifer Wickizer and Trevor King; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 2, 1996, at 2 p.m. from Klawitter-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Nelson, Nebraska, with Pastor Michael Osberg officiating. Music was provided by James and Alfred Hanson singing a duet of "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" and a congregational hymn of "The Old Rugged Cross" with Carlita Price as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were David Zook, Steve King, Tim Savage, Richard Wickizer, Scott King and Jack King. Burial was in Nelson Cemetery. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
