Elsie Boettger, daughter of Gerhardt and Christina nee Andresen Brunssen was born in Crawford County, Iowa, on September 5, 1897. Her mother died in childbirth in 1900. She was raised by Hans and Mary (Hildebrant) Finneran. According to Mr. Finneran obituary she was the adopted daughter. She attended Crawford County rural schools and Denison Lutheran school. Mrs. Boettger was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed on December 13, 1913. On January 17, 1917 she was united in marriage to John Boettger of Denison. They made their home on farms near Charter Oak and Denison. To this union five sons were born. Mr. and Mrs. Boettger celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1967. They retired from the farm in 1958, and they made their home in Denison were Mrs. Boettger passed away on Monday, December 4, 1972, having attained the age of 75 years, 2 months and 29 days. Mrs. Boettger had been in ill health the past year. Her parents preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband John; five sons; Hugo and Raymond of Dow City and Arthur, John L. "Jack" and Lester of Denison; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 7, at 1:30 p.m. at Huebner Funeral Home in Denison with the Rev. Robert Maschke officiating. Mrs. Fred Rabe, organist, accompanied Henry Henningsen, soloist. Interment was made in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, Denison, Iowa, with the following as pallbearers grandsons: John A. Boettger, Roger Boettger, Henry Boettger, Terry Boettger, Jerry Boettger and Larry Boettger. Huebner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.Elsie had two sisters: Geraldine Petersen, Ricketts, Iowa (7-25-1896 to 3-25-1985) and Mrs. Anna Ward, Omaha, Ne (4-9-1899 to 11-1-1946). Her father, Gerhardt died in California on November 14, 1945, the result of being hit by a car he was 88 at the time. Read less
