Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Elsie died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Westwing Place, DeWitt. She was born Aug. 6, 1914, in Schleswig Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Fred and Henrietta (Gamm) Fuhrmann. On Feb. 17, 1936, Elsie was united in marriage to Herbert Hartmann at St. Paul's Lutheran parsonage, Clinton. The couple farmed in the Elvira area for 39 years. They retired to Clinton in 1974. Elsie was a member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church and was a former member of Mary Martha Circle. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, playing cards, reading and collecting recipes. Survivors include her husband, Herbert; daughter, Anne, and her husband, Paul Mardorf, Waverly; son, Thomas, and his wife, Linda Hartmann, Bellevue, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Hartmann, Goose Lake; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Elsie was preceded in death by her sons, David Hartmann and Paul Hartmann, grandson, Bill Hartmann, infant grandson, John Hartmann, and two brothers.
