Elsie was born in Swan, IA on August 1, 1924, the daughter of Willis Evan and Gladys Ruth (Benge) Schirner. Elsie loved her children and spent her life as a homemaker. She married Merle Croy Sr. on November 17, 1941 in Trenton, MO. after his death, she married Dewayne Croy on September 2, 1964 in Des Moines. She is survived by five children by Merle Sr.; Merle (Judy) Croy, Jr. of Bismarck, ND; Dixie (Ronnie) Benge of Osceola; Lois Herold, Billy (Bobbie) Croy; and Budd (Ellen Royce) Croy, all of Des Moines; two children by DeWayne; Cheryl (Joe) Hadley of Des Moines and Marilyn (David) Mohr of Dallas, TX. She had two special sons (nephews), Burle Croy Jr. and James Croy; 27 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Schirner and Betty Thornburg of Winterset; and brother Ancil Denzler (Barbara) of Houston, Texas; many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Merle Sr. and Dewayne; brother, Silas Schirner; daughter-in-law, Anita Croy; and grandson, Randy Herold. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are being handled by Mason Funeral Home of Pleasantville.
