Williams Funeral Home of Superior, NE is in charge of the arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elsie Campbell Penney, 93 formerly of Superior, NE, passed away on Tuesday, December, 16, 2014 at Fairbury, NE. Elsie was born in Schneverdingen, Germany on February 23, 1921, to William and Meta [Bohling] Kuehne. Elsie had two younger sisters, Adina [Mason] and Eileen [Eickmann]. Elsie went to school at rural Byron until the eighth grade. Due to the economic conditions of the 1930's she had to quit school and work to help support the family. On October 9th, 1941 Elsie married Roy Campbell of rural Byron. To this marriage one son, Jerry was born on October 11, 1943. Roy and Elsie ran a grocery store in Byron for several years before moving to Ruskin in 1949. At Ruskin they started Ruskin Produce, picking up farmer's eggs, cream, and chickens. After large dairies and cage laying chickens took over that industry Roy started Ruskin Insurance and Elsie went to work in Superior, working for several doctors and a tire store before retiring at age 65. Roy and Elsie moved to a new home in Superior in 1980 and Elsie pursued her hobbies of golf, sewing, and card playing. Roy died June 23rd, 1984 after suffering from Alzheimers for several years. Even after moving to Superior Elsie continued her faith in God and went to Ruskin to Bethany Lutheran Church almost every Sunday until she could no longer drive. Elsie found the love of her life on the golf course, and she married him, Lee Penney, on August 16, 1986. Lee and Elsie golfed, played cards, and traveled to Alaska, Austria, Germany, and many other places. She even got to see Ellis Island, where she and her parents came through in 1923. Lee passed away on February 15, 1998 from an accident being struck by a car while on foot; where Lee nor the driver of the car saw each other. Elsie finally had to go to long term care and died with her son by her side in Fairbury at Heritage Care Center. Elsie is survived by her son Jerry and wife Yvonne of Fairbury, NE; sister Eileen Eickmann of Superior, NE; two granddaughters Trini Hendricks of Omaha, and Tiffany Butcher of Lincoln. Grandchildren include Tanner Hendricks, Jayden Martin, Logan Hendricks, Jace Butcher, Reece Hendricks, and granddog Jazzy. Memorial services were held Saturday 11:00 AM, December 20, 2014 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Nebraska with Pastor Stuart Sell officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date. A register book will be available for signing on Friday from 10 am to 5 pm at the funeral home.
