Elva Forrest Hanby was born to Henry Blew and Ladora Blew at Amhurst, Neb., on Oct. 19, 1897. Hanby lived in Amhurst, Neb., until age 13. Her parents moved to Lohrville, IA., where she finished her schooling. On May 17, 1916, she married Howard Hanby at Rockwell City, IA. The couple farmed near Lohrville, later moving to Emmetsburg and Gruver, IA. In 1924 the couple moved to a farm near Spirit Lake, where they farmed for many years. Hanby was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church, in Spirit Lake; a 50 year member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge; a 50 year member of the Rebekah Lodge and a member of the West Okoboji Country Club. Survivors include her husband, Howard, of Spirit Lake; one son, Henry, also of Spirit Lake; three grandchildren, Diane Sanders of Monticello, IA., David Hanby of Rockford, ILL., and William Hanby of Spirit Lake; four great grandchildren, Aaron and Moya Sanders of Monticello, and Dawn and Holly Hanby of Rockford, ILL.; one sister, Beatrice Knapp of Perry, IA.; and one brother, Harry Blew, of Chicago, ILL. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Glen, Henry and George Blew. The Donovan-Leyon Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
