Elva is the loving wife of Lee Rummans of Lowell, AR; and mother to Bruce (Linda) Rummans of Sadler, TX, Marcia (Ken) Schlomer of Norwalk, IA, and Chris (Debra) Rummans of Jesup, IA. Visitation with the family will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, March 11th with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 12 Noon at O'Leary Funeral Services in Norwalk, IA. Burial will follow services in the Franklin Township Cemetery near Bondurant. Elva's Life Story Elva Irene was born on April 27, 1925 in Bondurant, Iowa, the daughter of John Lundy and Elizabeth Ann (Baer) Brown. She grew up on a farm north of Bondurant with her siblings Clarence and Shirley. Elva attended school in Bondurant and graduated from Bondurant Consolidated High School on May 20, 1943. She then went on to attend the American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines where she earned her diploma in the Executive Secretarial Course with honors on January 23, 1945. Following her formal college education, she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at Rollins Hosiery Mill off Dean Avenue on the eastside of Des Moines. While growing up, Elva’s brother, Clarence, was a best friend with Lee Rummans. Elva took a liking to Lee, and they started dating after the end of World War II. Elva and Lee were married on February 28, 1948 in Bondurant. To this union they were blessed with three children: Bruce, Marcia, and Chris. They began their lives together farming and rented a total of three different farms, where Elva raised her family while managing the books and helping with the daily routines of the farm. In 1966, Elva and Lee moved their family to Des Moines where Lee worked for Massey Ferguson. Throughout the years, Elva enjoyed gardening, reading, listening to music and playing the piano, and sewing. She created an embroidered blanket, designed and sewn with love, for each of her grandchildren upon their much-anticipated arrivals. Over her lifetime Elva treasured her family. After retiring in Lowell, Arkansas, yearly family gatherings at Easter became cherished memories. Her infamous “grandma” noodles and cookies will be fondly remembered and missed. The anticipated Easter egg hunts and “bunny sightings” were highlights for adults and children alike. Elva was known for her witty wisdom. Some of her famous sayings over the years included: · That’s the way it is; that’s the way it will be. · This is pass-along money (pay it forward). · Get all you can and can all you get! · Remember me with a smile! �� After 71 years of marriage, Elva passed away peacefully with Lee by her side on March 1, 2019. She traveled to Heaven to join those who preceded her in death including her parents and siblings Clarence Brown and Shirley Silver. Her life will be fondly remembered by her husband Lee Rummans of Lowell, Arkansas; two sons, Bruce (Linda) Rummans of Sadler, Texas, and Chris (Debra) Rummans of Jesup, Iowa; a daughter, Marcia (Ken) Schlomer of Norwalk, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Sheryl (Michael), Brian (Stephanie), Kyle (Jessica), Kevin (Jen), Dianne (Josh), Tyler, Kayla, Jeremiah (Becky), and Jonathan; a host of great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Keith Silver.
