Elvera Kathleen Dahlgren, 102 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Bertrand, Nebraska), passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Elvera Kathleen Dahlgren, 102 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Bertrand, Nebraska), passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. She was born March 7, 1912, in a sod house in Phelps County, Nebraska, near Overton, Nebraska, the second of five children born to Gunnar and Jennie (Nilsson) Erickson. She attended Bertrand country school and graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1929. On March 16, 1930, she was united in marriage to Leslie E. “Les” Dahlgren and to this union three children were born: Wayne, Janet and Linda. The family engaged in farming near Bertrand, until Les went to work for the Farm Security Administration in 1938. In 1945, they began to operate the Dahlgren Farm Supply in Holdrege. Elvera enjoyed her time as the “Parts Gal” and billing coordinator. In the early 1950s, Wayne joined the family operation. In 1979, Leslie passed away. On April 6, 1994, after 49 years of operation, Wayne and Elvera sold the business and retired. Elvera was a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, joining in 1945. She enjoyed singing in the choir, was a member of the Women’s Circle and enjoyed her time spent with the Women’s Quilting Guild. In 2001, Elvera moved to Christian Homes. Besides her parents and husband, Leslie she was preceded in death by; a four year old sister, Brita Jane in 1927; sister, Ruth Stewart and husband, Ed; brother: Harold Erickson and wife, Martha; and son, Wayne Dahlgren in 2000. She leaves to mourn her passing; her daughters: Janet K. Smith and her husband, Ronald R. of Cedar Crest, New Mexico and Linda K. Hammond of Omaha, Nebraska; sister, Phyllis Fahrenbruch of Kearney, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Scott Miller and his wife, Debbie of Aurora, Nebraska, Jeff Miller of Omaha, Julie Cahoy and her husband, Steve of Omaha, Shari Munro and her husband, Kevin of Omaha, Dan Hammond of Omaha, and Brent Hammond of Oxford, Nebraska; seven great-grandchildren: Keri Christensen and her husband, Seth of Omaha, Kurt Miller of Omaha, Nicole Zuccarini of Peoria, Illinois, Matthew Munro of Omaha, Connor Munro of Omaha, Janae Hammond of Oxford and Jorja Hammond of Oxford; three great-great grandchildren: Jackson, Schylar and Riley Christensen all of Omaha; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Friday, March 6, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. A memorial has been established in Elvera’s honor and kindly suggested to Bethel Lutheran Church or Christian Homes Care Community.
