Description	:	Elverna was born Christmas day, Dec. 25, 1895 in Turtlelake, Barron, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Jefferson William Higbee and Ellen Ulessa Stowell. Born in Turtlelake, Barron County, Wisconsin. She came with her parents in 1906 to Washington state and they settled in Fall City. She married Feb. 7, 1911 in Seattle, King, Washington to Harry Leroy Totten. They had left Fall City in 1915 to homestead in Grassrange, Montana. Read More	Elverna was born Christmas day, Dec. 25, 1895 in Turtlelake, Barron, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Jefferson William Higbee and Ellen Ulessa Stowell. Born in Turtlelake, Barron County, Wisconsin. She came with her parents in 1906 to Washington state and they settled in Fall City. She married Feb. 7, 1911 in Seattle, King, Washington to Harry Leroy Totten. They had left Fall City in 1915 to homestead in Grassrange, Montana. After some hard winters, they decided to head back for Fall City in 1920. Elverna and Harry had eight children, Alice, Edith, Gerald, Elsie, Harry, John (my dad), Ellen and Margie. During World War II, they moved to Carnation, Washington and bought a feed store. After the war they bought a farm in Hermiston, Oregon. Harry died there in 1949 and shortly after Elverna left for the Oregon coast. She eventually settled in Coos Bay, Oregon. She had an appartment that overlook the harbor and she loved to watch the ships come in and go out. She had that restless Totten spirit and if she had been a few years younger, I'll bet she would have jumped on one of those freighters. In the last few months of her life she wasn't doing well and fighting cancer. Her daughter Elsie took her up to Enumclaw, Washington, to take care of her. Elverna died 28 Jul 1982 in Enumclaw, King, Washington. She was buried next to her husband, Harry and daughter Ellen, in the Fall City Cemetery on Jul 31, 1982. Some saw my grandma as a feisty and stuborn woman. And at times she was, but she was also the matriarch of the family, a woman who would have done anything for her family and what each of us descendants are today, it is because of her. We stand firm and refuse to give up because of the stuborn strick we got from her. She is missed by each of us and will live on in our hearts. Elverna Totten, who had been a resident of Bethseda Manor Nursing Home since May, died on July 28 at Community Memorial at the age of 86. She was born December 24, 1895 in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin and was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Harry Totten of John Day, Oregon and John Totten of Walnut, California; four daughters, Alice Maki of Sebastopol, California, Edith Bowles of Lakeside, Oregon, Elsie Thompson of Federal Way and Margie Ragnone of Enumclaw; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the Enumclaw Funeral Home Chapel on July 31. Private family inurnment was at Fall City Cemetery. Send remembrances to the American Heart Association.
