Description	:	The death of Mrs. Elvira S. Mason occurred at the Saints' Home on Thursday morning, July 8, 1920. Her age was eighty-three years. four months and twenty-two days. She had been a resident of Lamoni thirty-three years, and was well known to many of our citizens, although of a quiet and unobtrusive nature and not mixing with people generally. She had been a resident of Lamoni thirty-three years, and was well known to many of our citizens, although of a quiet and unobtrusive nature and not mixing with people generally. She was born in Jackson county, Michigan, February 16, 1897, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Smith. From her ninth year until her eighteenth, she lived with her parents in Peru and Dixon, Illinois. In 1865 at Dixon, when she was past eighteen years, she was married to Mr. William V. Mason. They located at Washington, Iowa, in 1869. Eight children were born to them. Of these four died in their youth, and in 1889 Mr. Mason also died. Her eldest son Clarence having begun life for himself, the mother came in 1890 to Lamoni with her three youngest sons, Victor, Roscoe, and William. Of these Victor died in 1915 at Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Roscoe and William have lived many years at St. Joseph, Missouri. She frequently visited them but continued her residence in Lamoni. Mrs. Mason united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ in 1870 and she continued steadfast in her path to the end. In February 1918, she wrote an outline of her life in which she spoke of her satisfaction and joy in the gospel of Christ. There was a large attendance of elderly people at her funeral, those who were acquainted with her and who honored her memory. Her sons came from St. Joseph. The sermon was by H. A. At Washington, Iowa, November 7th, 1889, Mr. W. V. Mason, beloved husband of Sister Elvira Mason, aged 64 years and was buried at Dixon, Illinois. He was a gentleman of much more than ordinary ability and worth and ranked well in society and among businessmen. For some time past his health had been failing, and he passed away to "the beyond" with the full consciousness that his change was at hand.
