Description	:	Elwood Cook, 93, was called to his heavenly home on December 29, 2016, at his home. A lifelong farmer in Moniteau County. Cook was born March 25, 1923, the second son of Luther and Nellie Cook (nee Wyss). He married Anna Albertin in California, MO, on June 13, 1948. Cook was born March 25, 1923, the second son of Luther and Nellie Cook (nee Wyss). He married Anna Albertin in California, MO, on June 13, 1948. He often said of Anna that he had a crush on her when he was 17 and thought she was perfect, then he married her and knew she was perfect. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2004. Cook was a 1941 graduate of California High School. He served in the Army Corp of Engineers working at the port of Yokahama, Japan in 1946-7. He was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church in McGirk and served on the board of the Old Lebanon Cemetery Association for over 50 years, serving as treasurer for many years. Cook was proud that the farm he lived on was a Missouri Century Farm, having been in the Albertin/Cook family for over 120 years. He served on the local MFA board of California during the 1970s and was recognized by the Moniteau County Soil and Water Conservation District as an outstanding cooperator. He was an avid California Pintos and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He rarely missed a Missouri Tiger basketball game and often commented that he watched legendary coach Norm Stewart play basketball at Mizzou. He took great interest in the activities of his children and grandchildren. Cook is survived by one brother: Nelson Cook and his wife LaVerne of California, MO; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Cook and Henrietta Cook of California, MO; three sons: Elwood (Gene) Jr. and his wife Linda, David and his wife Dawn, and Stephen and his wife Dawn, all of California, MO; two daughters: Patricia (Pat) Nichols and her husband Bruce of California, MO, and Kathy Baker and her husband Ed of Baton Rouge, LA. Cook is also survived by eight grandchildren: Andrew Nichols of St Louis, MO; Kristin Dow and her husband Ben of Amarillo, Texas, Anna Nichols of Arlington, VA, David Cook and his wife Crystal of California, MO, Kyle Cook of Columbia, MO, Daniel Cook and his wife Danielle of California, MO, Stephenie Kern and her husband Jason of Scottsdale, AZ and Dustin Cook and his wife Rhiannon of Baton Rouge, LA; and two step-grandchildren: Colton and Jack Warren, of California, MO. Cook is survived by 10 great-grandchildren: Kaden, Owen, and Grace Dow, Lydia and Margaret Cook, Emilia and Aubrey Thomas, and Brayden, Beckham and Briggs Kern. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Lawrence, John (who died in infancy), Richard and Stanley Cook; and his wife, Anna Cook. Visitation will be on Friday, January 6, 2017, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. officiated by Rev. L.P. Cook III and assisted by Rev. Jeremy Barnard at the Lebanon Baptist Church in McGirk. Burial will be at the Old Lebanon Cemetery in Moniteau County. Memorials are suggested to the Lebanon Baptist Church, Michael J. Fox Foundation or Alzheimers Association c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Service in California, MO.
