Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown with Pastor Sara Nelson officiating. Lesa Dahl will be the organist. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown, and on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Active Pallbearers will be his nephews: Allen Mischke, Tyler McElhany, Gary Brugman, Mark Brugman, Tony Mischke and Charles Hansen. Elwood Gene Brugman was born to George E. and Luella (Yahn) Brugman on August 30, 1929 on a farm near Vienna, Hamlin County, South Dakota. He attended college in Brookings where he enrolled in the two year printing course. In 1951, Elwood married Dorothy Mischke at Grover, SD. They made their home in Watertown where they raised their children, Kevin, Kelly, Kurt, and Kristi. Elwood worked for the Herald Enterprise of Hayti for nine months and then worked in the commercial printing department as a typesetter at the Watertown Public Opinion for 45 years. He retired in 1995. Elwood was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was an usher for many years, and helped in the church office. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, working on puzzles, and feeding and watching the birds and squirrels in his yard. He also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune. Elwood is survived by his wife, Dorothy Brugman of Watertown, SD; three sons, Kevin (Kim) Brugman of Spotsylvania, VA, Kelly Brugman of Aberdeen, SD, Kurt (Colleen) Brugman of St. Paul, MN; one daughter, Kristi Brugman of Watertown, SD; four grandchildren, Christopher, Trevor, Jonathon and Jason Brugman; one sister, Laurel (Paul) McElhany of Watertown; a sister-in-law, Gloria Brugman of Watertown, SD; his cousin, Carla Carlson-Sinnett of St. Louis Park, MN; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Donald Brugman. - Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel
