Description	:	Emma was the daughter of Samuel Fletcher and Charlotte Fowler. She came to Sidney from Marion County, Iowa when she was two years old. At that time the county was new; bands of Indians, sometimes hostile, often made raids against the settlers. At the time of her death, Emma had the distinction of living the longest unbroken period of residence, 76 years, of any person in the county. Read More	Emma was the daughter of Samuel Fletcher and Charlotte Fowler. She came to Sidney from Marion County, Iowa when she was two years old. At that time the county was new; bands of Indians, sometimes hostile, often made raids against the settlers. At the time of her death, Emma had the distinction of living the longest unbroken period of residence, 76 years, of any person in the county. When Emma was 18 years of age, her sister was captured by Indians when accompanying her husband on a trip carrying supplies to the western frontier by wagon train. Her sister was rescued a few months later. Emma married James Curran on 4 April 1871. James was an Irishman and a sergeant in the northern army of the First Nebraska Cavalry during the Civil War. Four children were born to them, Otis, Curtis, Nellie and Dan, who died in 1922 in a car accident in California. James was a laborer who worked for the railroad and they owned their own home west of the train depot. He died in 1901. Emma died at the age of 78 years. Her death was caused by pneumonia of less than three weeks duration.
